The 4th Steering Committee Meeting of the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (GN-SEC) was held on 25 October 2019 in Accra, Ghana. The GN-SEC represents an innovative south-south and triangular multi-stakeholder partnership to accelerate the energy and climate transformation in developing countries. Since 2010, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) assists the regional economic communities/organizations and their member states in the establishment and operation of regional sustainable energy promotion centres.

On invitation of the Foreign Minister of Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Elmar Mammadyarov, the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour visited Baku to participate in the 18th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit held in Baku on 25-26 October, 2019. The Summit was formally inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At the Summit, Azerbaijan took over the presidency of the movement from Venezuela for a three-year term from 2019 to 2022.

ECO Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Dr. Huseyin Avni Bicakli represented the ECO at the High-Level International Conference “Aral Sea Region – Zone of Environmental Innovations and Technologies”, convened by the Government of Uzbekistan under the aegis of the United Nations in Nukus, Uzbekistan on 24-25 October 2019.

Health Ministers and high-level representatives of the 22 countries and territories of the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, partner organizations and civil society, has participated in the Sixty-sixth Session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, from 14 to 17 October 2019.

The 3rd ECO Ministerial Meeting on Tourism proceeded by the 5th High Level Experts Group (HLEG) on Tourism was held on 3-4 October, 2019, in Khujand, Tajikistan. The Meetings were hosted by the Committee of Tourism Development under the government of the Republic of Tajikistan. Delegations from the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Tajikistan (Host), the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Uzbekistan as well as the delegation of ECO Secretariat attended the Meetings.

Deputy Secretary General Ambassador Dr. Huseyin Avni Bicakli participated in the session’s meetings.of the 74th UN General Assembly on 27 September 2019 in New York and represented the ECO in the capacity of observer.

The Informal Meeting of ECO Council of Ministers was held on 27th September 2019 on the sidelines of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

On August 22, 2019, the ECO Secretary General, H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour held a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Nematullo Hikmatullozoda and briefed him on the latest development on economic and trade cooperation in the ECO region as well as the achievements of the organization in those areas.

On August 22, 2019, the ECO Secretary General, H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour met with Mr. Nu'mon Abdugafforzoda, the Chairman of the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.

On August 21, 2019, the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), H.E. Dr. Hadi Soleimanpour met with the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, H.E. Mr. Emomali Rahmon in the Guliston city of Sughd Province of Tajikistan.
